Budding Designers at Xingnan Primary:
Turning Dream Classrooms into Reality
At The Possible Class, we’re proud to have been featured in The Straits Times for our work with Xingnan Primary School. The story celebrates a unique project where pupils became the designers of their own learning space—turning imaginative sketches into a fully realised classroom.
From Sketches to Spaces
Instead of simply being told what their classrooms should look like, the pupils were given the chance to dream, design, and decide. With guidance from teachers and support from design professionals, they sketched ideas, discussed their needs, and experimented with 3D modelling software to bring their visions to life.
What emerged was not just a makeover, but a transformation. Students created layouts that encouraged collaboration, quiet reflection, and creativity. They considered everything from furniture design to colour palettes, always balancing beauty with functionality.
Learning Beyond Textbooks
The project wasn’t always easy. Pupils had to learn how to collaborate, compromise, and adapt when ideas clashed or when technical limitations came up. Yet it was these very challenges that made the experience richer.
Some students designed dual-purpose shelves that worked for both storage and display. Others explored cosy corners for reading or flexible seating for group work. Through it all, they experienced what professional designers call “design thinking”—solving problems by testing ideas, learning from mistakes, and refining solutions.

More Than a Classroom
The finished classroom now reflects the pupils’ voices. It’s bright, functional, and adaptable, with spaces that can shift from group discussions to independent learning with ease. Most importantly, it feels like a place that belongs to the students—a space they helped to build.
This initiative is a reminder that education isn’t just about exams or rigid timetables. It’s also about creativity, agency, and giving children a sense of ownership in their learning environment.
A Model for the Future
The success at Xingnan shows what can happen when schools trust students with real responsibility. With the right guidance, young people can achieve professional-level outcomes while learning skills that go far beyond the classroom—teamwork, resilience, and confidence.
For us at The Possible Class, it’s a proud moment to see our philosophy of experiential, student-led learning come to life so vividly. And for the students, it’s an experience they’ll carry with them for years to come.
